Quick Product Description Writing Cheatsheet

Optimizing Content & Descriptions for Drop Shipped or Branded Products

The goal of these product descriptions is to solve the visitor’s problem and push them to purchase that product. What problem does the product solve? What will the visitor gain from using this product? What separates this specific product from the others on the market?

1st Paragraph of Content

I would recommend basing your descriptions off the manufacturer’s description, but it should still be 100% unique (make sure to be honest and transparent, especially with our industry and to reduce returns/complaints). This area of content should be 3-4 sentences long. It should include keywords that are searched on Google. By optimizing our product descriptions to include specific keywords, we can help improve our chances of ranking high on Google.

  • You can research the keywords used by type in the product name in Google. Example - https://bit.ly/31N0oat. Then scroll to the middle of the page and you will see “People also ask”, then scroll to the bottom of the page and you will see “Searches related to <x>”. If it makes sense, use these in your description.

  • According to a 2019 study, these keywords help to influence visitors to purchase:

    • Suddenly, now, announcing, introducing, amazing, sensational, revolutionary, miracle, magic, quick, hurry.

  • Relate the product to the customer. For example, “So you are looking to “X” over the next couple months, “X” product can help you reach that goal”.

  • Think about who the product is for? Is it for a man? A women? A certain age group? Relate the description to them.

Bulleted List

This comes after the intro paragraph. This should be a list of the most important points of the product. Again, 100% unique, but you can base it off of the manufacturer’s important points. This is to help for those people that only like to scan. I would expect 4-5 important points.

Directions/Warnings

This can be the same as the manufacturer states. It is important to not change this. We still have a majority of the page that will be unique.

Ingredients/Technical Items

You can either put the ingredients in a text format. Just copying them from another competitor and pasting it in. Or you can add an image to the content area or the product image area. The advantage of the ingredient text is that our page could be shown in the Google search results when people are searching for those ingredients/technical items. The benefit of having an image is that it is normally cleaner and easier for the customer to read and understand.

Images

Additional images can make sense if you want to highlight anything about the product. These can be added to the actual product images are right in the content area itself.
